The death of Anna Nichole Smith ups the stakes in the custody fight between Larry Birkhead and Howard K. Stern over Smith’s five month old daughter.
If Smith left her estate to the child in a will, or if Smith died without a will, the child will receive a portion of her mother’s estate. And Smith’s estate may ultimately collect millions from Howard Marshall’s estate, Smith’s ex-husband.
The child’s father will be the child’s guardian and control those funds until the child is 18 years old.
